Economic Development & Entrepreneurship

The National Symposium 2nd & 3rd of November 2017

Welcome, Tēnā koe, Haere Mai!

Welcome to the 2017 Māori Economic Development & Entrepreneurship Symposium...

A large part of the future of Māori can be determined by a strong focus on economic development with a little bit of entrepreneurship thrown in. The reality is we are a people with a rich and valuable story to tell. We were here long before our fellow New Zealanders trading with each us, buying and selling, building and taking care of the assets we all know today to be towering industries of the New Zealand economy.

There are hundreds if not thousands of initiatives underway right across Aotearoa so the question becomes how can we harness the power of economic development and entrepreneurship?

The 2017 National Symposium is bought to you by Ngā Ngaru because we feel our role is not only to act as a bridge between Iwi and Māori Everywhere – it’s also an opportunity for us to bring thought and knowledge leaders together with every day organisations to see what more we can do as a collective to plot a way forward.

To do that we have developed a program and agenda with a mix of speakers from home and abroad as well as a raft of themes that focus in on the following questions:

  • “What are we doing?”

  • “Who else around the world is doing things we can learn from?”

  • “What more can we do?”

And

  • “If we know what we want to do then how can we get there?”

As Chair of Ngā Ngaru I am proud to bring you this exciting, dynamic and important symposium for you , your organisation and our people.
